Sharing the Harvest
Many times Pat and I find ourselves with more of our harvest than we can eat. So we rinse off the goods and take baskets to the elderly folks we know and love, or to our neighbors who don’t have the time to plant, water and nurture a garden. Sharing in your harvest can have many benefits for all involved. For those giving it’s a way to pay forward our efforts and have some feel good moments. For those receiving it can be many things, the opportunity for fresh produce, a memory of forgotten times, a healthy food option and the list goes on.
You can also donate to the local food shelf if your garden has an abundance of vegetables. Please don’t let your hard work and the gifts from God’s harvest go to waste. If you can’t eat it all, and you aren’t going to can and preserve the bounty, look beyond the borders of your yard and make a gift out of your carefully nurtured treasure.
Remember there are folks in our neighborhoods that aren’t getting out and about. Covid has sent fear through our communities and into the homes of many. A quick stop with some veggies, might be the only conversation your elderly friend or neighbor has had in a while. So I encourage you to reach out and share the harvest.
If you have an abundance of vegetables and you don’t have anyone to give them to or a way to get them to the food shelf, let me know. I can help find a home for for them with folks who would be appreciative. Or I can help you get them delivered to a local food shelf.
